El sumergible conocido como “Titán” sigue desaparecido desde el pasado domingo, y junto con él, los cinco navegantes: un aviador británico, un empresario pakistaní junto con su hijo, un oceanógrafo francés y el propio dueño de la empresa organizadora del viaje de expedición.
Resulta un verdadero misterio la desaparición del submarino utilizado para descender al fondo marino del océano Atlántico y conocer los restos del Titanic, en el que viajaban cinco tripulantes y de los cuales se conocieron las identidades de cada uno de ellos. ¿Quiénes son?.
En las últimas horas salieron a la luz datos sobre los cinco tripulantes desaparecidos en el sumergible encargado de explorar los restos del famoso transatlántico, hundido en el año 1912. Se trata de un aviador británico, un empresario pakistaní junto con su hijo, un oceanógrafo francés y el propio dueño de la empresa organizadora del viaje turístico hacia el lecho marino.
Según la agencia internacional AFP, Hamish Harding es el británico que es parte de la expedición. Tiene 58 años y es un famoso multimillonario conocido por ser el dueño de Action Aviation, una compañía dedicada a los viajes en jets privados. Es también conocido por viajar al espacio con la empresa de exploración espacial de Jeff Bezos y ostenta el récord Guinness por la circunnavegación más rápida de la Tierra, trasladándose del polo norte y sur en 46 horas y 40 minutos.
“Me enorgullece anunciar finalmente que me uní a @OceanGateExpedpara su misión RMS TITANIC como especialista de misión en el submarino que se dirige al Titanic”, publicó hace tres días en su cuenta personal de Twitter.
El magnate millonario ya cuenta con un antecedente relacionado a los viajes a las profundidades del océano: en 2021, bajó 4.600 metros para conocer la Fosa de las Marianas, el punto más profundo del planeta, con una duración de 4 horas y 15 minutos.
En segundo lugar se encuentra Shahzada Dawood y Suleman Dawood, padre e hijo, respectivamente, ambos de origen pakistaní. El mayor es empresario y una de las familias más ricas de la región, siendo vicepresidente del conglomerado Engro con sede en Karachi, encargada de producir fertilizantes, alimentos y energía. Su descendiente tiene 19 años y vive en el Reino Unido al igual que toda su familia.
“Por ahora, se ha perdido el contacto con el sumergible y la información disponible es limitada”, comunicó Christine, la esposa del también patrocinador del Instituto SETI en California, la cual tiene la función de “explorar, comprender, explicar el origen y la naturaleza de la vida”.
Sigue el misterio con el pequeño submarino: los desaparecidos
Otro de los desaparecidos junto con el submarino es el francés Paul-Henry Nargeolet, de 77 años y especialista que estudia los mares y océanos, además de ser buzo profesional. Los medios internacionales lo consideran como “Mr. Titanic”, a partir de su amplio conocimiento sobre este el gigantesco barco que se hundió en la madrugada del 15 de abril de 1912, luego de impactar contra un iceberg de hielo.
Se trata de un veterano de la Marina francesa, quien integró además el equipo del Instituto Francés de Investigación y Explotación del Mar, especializándose en la disciplina de inmersión profunda y pilotaje de sumergibles. Desde 1987 se encargó de viajar en reiteradas ocasiones al sector donde descansan los restos del barco, por lo que llegó a recuperar alrededor de 5.500 objetos de allí.
El especialista recorrió distintas partes del mundo sumergiéndose en zonas más profundas de los cinco océanos del planeta, de las cuales participó en expediciones científicas para indagar sobre los misterios que esconde el fondo marítimo.
Por último, se encuentra Stockton Rush, justamente el dueño de la empresa OceanGate Expeditions fundada en el año 2009. En una entrevista Reuters, había asegurado que sus submarinos eran capaces de “manejar profundidades de hasta 4000 metros” y la “presión” del mismo océano.
En aquella oportunidad demostró las garantías de los submarinos y que los “exploradores” -así los llamó para evitar el término ‘turista’- estarían a salvo con suficiente oxígeno en caso de una urgencia. “Llega un momento en que la seguridad no es más que un despilfarro. Si sólo quieres estar seguro, no salgas de la cama”, añadió en la entrevista.
Según Rush, las expediciones con un valor de 250 mil dólares, servían como una estrategia de marketing y al mismo tiempo desarrollar innovaciones para naves sumergibles. Previo a eso fue piloto de avión siendo el aviador más joven del mundo, con 19 años, en 1981, para luego pasar directamente a lo relacionado con los viajes a los océanos, en conjunto con la empresa BlueView Technologies, la cual crea sistemas de sonda de alta frecuencia.
Lo último que se sabe es que la tripulación inició su camino al fondo del océano a las 4 de la madrugada del día domingo, pero casi dos horas después se perdió la comunicación con la nave nodriza. Vale recordar que el submarino tiene forma de un tubo estrecho, con una escotilla de entrada en la parte frontal, que mide 6.7 metros de longitud y 2.8 metros de ancho.
