Esta escala en República Dominicana no es casual. Se trata de la segunda funcionaria en importancia de la diplomacia estadounidense, designada por Biden para continuar la agenda que se trazó en la bilateral con Alberto Fernández.
En todos esos aspectos Estados Unidos juega un rol fundamental. Como accionista mayoritario y como conductor político. Según cuentan en Economía, Sherman pidió específicamente reunirse con Massa que, se sabe, tiene aceitados vínculos en el país del norte. Otros puntos de la negociación también pasan por el comercio: Argentina quiere ingresar a un sistema de preferencias que le quitaría aranceles a sus productos. También apuntan a que se aceleren las inversiones en litio, donde por ahora hay un fuerte predominio chino.
En otro orden, el Gobierno está enfocado en las negociaciones con funcionarios del Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) y del gobierno norteamericano para lograr un alivio en el frente externo y así atravesar sin sobresaltos el impacto de la sequía. Alberto Fernández, lo catalogó como un “puente” hasta el año que viene. Las gestiones incluyen recalibrar las metas del programa, adaptar el cronograma de desembolsos y conseguir fondos frescos de organismos multilaterales.
Cómo sigue la agenda en EEUU
La agenda oficial de las reuniones de primavera del FMI y el BM se llevarán a cabo en Washington D.C., desde el jueves, e incluyen, además de la sesión plenaria, distintas actividades:
- Encuentro del Comité Monetario y Financiero Internacional (IMFC)
- Un desayuno de trabajo con autoridades económicas de América del Sur y México organizado por Departamento del Hemisferio Occidental del FMI
- La reunión de Ministros de Finanzas por la Acción Climática, un Seminario de Alto Nivel sobre Implicancias Macrofinancieras de los Activos Crypto
- Encuentro organizado por Kristalina Georgieva con Ministros de Hacienda y Gobernadores de Bancos Centrales de América Latina, Canadá y EE.UU
